CONSTITUTION:On a ring shape iron core 5a, a sample insulator 1 is provided with a penetration-type current transformer 5 in which secondary windings 5b are uniformly wound. The leakage current I1 flowing to the surface of the sample insulator 1 is changed with a surface leakage resistor R. If the dirt of the surface of the insulator 1 is less, the current is at most several milli-amps, but if the amount of dirt is increased to be just before flashover, it amounts to several hundreds of milli- amps to several amperes. When the leakage current I1 before the flashover for the sample insulator 1 is <=200mA, the secondary winding 5b is wound so that the secondary current of the current transformer 5 corresponding to the leakage current I1=200mA is, e.g., 1.5mA, and a protective relay 10 is set so that it is operated at the secondary current of >=1.5mA. With the constitution like this, the amount of dirt of insulators is continuously monitored for sure maintenance.
