Abstract

PURPOSE: A small amount of coke is added to heavy oil as an agent for coking prevention and the heavy oil is thermally cracked in a pipe-type reactor, thus inhibiting the polymerization reactions to prevent the adhesion of polymers to the pipe walls and increasing the yield of light oil.
CONSTITUTION: To heavy oil with 15 or higher H/C atomic ratio is added coal (preferably nonviscous coal) or an inert carbonaceous substance by 0.1W5%. The resulting heavy oil is introduced into a pipe reactor and the thermal cracking reaction is conducted at 400W550°C and normal or elevated pressure for 1secW10min. The product is distilled and divided into gas, distillate and residue. The fraction boiling over 200°C is mixed with the raw material of heavy oil and subjected again to thermal cracking, whereas another fraction boiling at lower than 200°C is collected as light oil and gasoline.
