Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively use the whole tank portion of a used tanker and to reduce the material cost and work term of the construction of a breakwater by cutting the tank portion in two, fitting one of the cut sections to the other, and sinking the resultant structure to the seabed to form a breakwater.
CONSTITUTION: A used tanker 1 comprises a tank portion partitioned into a center tank 3 and wing tanks 4 by a pair of vertical partition walls 2. The tank portion is cut up along a line X-X' passing through the tank 4 into cut sections A and B. Locating the cut line X-X' in the center tank 3 is economically disadvantageous because the section B seated on the seabed requires reinforcement. The cut surface of the section A is placed on the deck of the section B including the center tank 3, the both sections are fused together, and the resultant structure is sunk to the seabed with the section B seated on the seabed so as to form a breakwater.
