Abstract

PURPOSE: A low-friction corrosion-proof pile provided with a device for inducing electroosmosis on the pile embedded in the ground, and a pile maintenance method utilizing the electroosmosis phenomenon.
CONSTITUTION: The main body of the device consists of a DC field generator such as a cell or DC generator, with the anode connected to an insoluble anode 2 driven into the ground 22 through a power line 3 and with the cathode connected to a pile 5 embedded in the ground 22 through a connector 8, switch 9, and power line 3. With the switch 9 closed, an electroosmosis phenomenon is induced between the pile 5 and the ground 2 by the DC field so that positive ions 11 and hydration water 12 move towards the cathode (pile) 5 and form a water collection layer 4 around the cathode (pile) 5. The layer 4 provides a lubrication effect at the contact surface between the pile 5 and the ground 22 to protect the pile 5 from damage.
