Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure the sealing performance as well as shorten the shaft length by providing a sealing device, at its mount position, with an underwater bearing functioning also as a seal simultaneously which prevents any muddy water from intruding into the bearing surface by means of supply of clean water, and by guiding the spindle by this underwater bearing.
CONSTITUTION: A bearing sleeve 92 and a seal sleeve 93 separately from this bearing sleeve 92 are arranged and fitted in the bearing housing 91, and then they are fixed with a push ring 94 to form a bearing device 9. When clean water having a pressure P1 which is a little higher than the pressure P in the water chamber is fed to the bearing surface, it flows into the gap between the seal sleeve 93 and the shaft journal, preventing the muddy water flowing in from the water chamber. By this construction, a conventional intermediate bearing and sealing device can be omitted as well as the shaft length can be reduced and, further, the replacement work of bearings can be done easily by incorporating a split construction in bearing sleeve 92 and seal sleeve 93.
