Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain anode having excellent corrosion resistance even during electrolysis under high voltage by the procedure in which a Ti compound is coated on a Ti base and heat-treated, and then a Pt-Ir alloy layer is formed on the Ti compound layer and then heat-treated in an inert atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of a titanium compound, e.g., TiCl4 etc., in a solvent is coated on an electrode base of titanium lath netting, etc., and then heat-treated in the atmosphere of oxygen for baking. Then, a solution of a Pt compound, e.g., PtCl6, etc., and an Ir compound, e.g., IrCl4, etc., in an organic slovent is coated on the Ti compound layer and then heat-treated by a burner frame for reduction. These operations are repeated to form a definite thickness of a Pt-Ir alloy layer and then baked at 350W800°C in the atmosphere of an inert gas. Thus, an anode which is excellent in oxygen overvoltage characteristics and corrosion resistance and which is suitable for the electrolysis of alkali chloride aqueous solution can be obtained.
