Abstract
PURPOSE:To solidify or gelatinize waste oil easily and inexpensively by bringing waste into contact with a high molecular compound having a water absorptive gelation capability in the presence of water and a surfactant. CONSTITUTION:Waste oil is mixed with water and a surfactant for emulsification, and then the emulsion so formed is brought into contact with a high molecular compound having a water absorptive gelation capability, e.g., starch-polyacrylonitrile graft polymer's saponified product, bridged polyethylene oxide polymer, bridged polyvinyl alcohol-acrylonitrile copolymer, acrylonitrile polymer, or a mixture of these, or waste oil is brought into contact with a mixture of water, a suractant, and a high molecular compound as mentioned above. If a vegetable fiber is added to the waste oil treatment system as needed, the gelation effect can be further accelerated. In this case, the length and amount of the fiber are, respectively, 5mm or less and 50pts.wt. on the basis of the weight of waste oil.
