Abstract

PURPOSE: A polymer composition that is made by adding a maleic-monoesterified starch-polystyrene graft copolymer to a synthetic high polymer containing starch, thus showing high water absorption, biodegradability and chemical degradability without adverse effects on the transparency of the synthetic high polymer.
CONSTITUTION: With 100pts.wt. of a synthetic high polymer, are mixed 10W 200pts. of a graft copolymer of maleic-monoesterified starch and polystyrene, preferably a copolymer of 50W180% graft ratio, and 1W100pts. of at least one selected from natural and processed starches. When the composition comprises only the synthetic high polymer and the graft copolymer, the ratio is adjusted to 100:1W300.
