Abstract

PURPOSE: A resin emulsion that is made by emulsifying a cyclopentadiene resin in the presence of a nonionic surface active agent of polyoxyethylene-polyoxy-propylene block polyether, thus having high storage stability and being used to modify epoxy resins.
CONSTITUTION: A cyclopentadiene resin softening at 20W170°C, which is prepared by the heat polymerization of a mixture of 85W35 wt% of cyclopentadiene monomer and 15W65 wt% of polar and monoolefinic monomers copolymerizable with the cyclopentadiene, is emulsified in the presence of a nonionic surface active agent of 2000W10000 average molecular weight and of polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene block ether. The cyclopentadiene monomer used is, e.g., cyclopentadiene, methylcyclopentadiene or their dimer or codimer.
