Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a fire-retarding agent comprising a reaction product of ammeline and ammelide for obtaining a fire-retardant polyamide of which native excellent physical property of polyamide is not damaged and which has excellent molding processability and does not show blooming from a surface of a molded article at all.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of ammeline and an aqueous solution of ammelide are mixed at equimolar ratio and stirred, e.g., at 100°C for 2hr. Formed precipitate is filtered to give a fire-retarding agent. A polyamide which can be made a fire retarding by this fire-retarding agent is selected from polycondensate of lactam or aminocarboxylic acid and polyamide or copolyamide obtained by polycondensing diamide and dicarboxylic acid, e.g., nylon 6, nylon 66 or the like. An amount of this fire retarding agent added is about 1W20wt%, preferably 5W15wt%.
