CONSTITUTION: Molten iron as raw material for steel making is put in a reaction vessel of hermetic type groove shape and is oxidation-treated with alkali metal compounds such as Na2CO3 as flux, whereby its Si, P and S are beforehand removed and refinined. In this case, Si is removed down to about 0.20%. Next, this molten iron is separated from the molten slag and is put in a converter, where it is decarbonized by oxygen blowing and is refined to steel.
