Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a gas contact device wherein gas flow velocity in a contact cylinder is substantially uniform and the coefficient of contact between the gas and a contacted substance is high.
CONSTITUTION: A chevron-shaped baffle member 9 is arranged near the opening of, and in the central portion of, a gas feed duct 3 in such a manner that it opens toward a contact cylinder 1. The gas flowing through the duct 3 is divided into two streams by the baffle member 9, before vigorously entering the cylinder 1 via narrow passages 11. Since a negative pressure is developed on the back side of the member 9, the gas entering the cylinder 1 forms a swirl 12 before flowing up toward a contact zone, with a portion of the gas flowing back toward the back side of the member 9.
