Abstract

PURPOSE: To lessen the deterioration of flux as well as raise the adhesion of electron-emitting substance to electrode-forming substance by providing electrodes with electron-emitting substance containing Y2O3 and La2O3 at both ends of a luminous tube in a mutually facing manner.
CONSTITUTION: The electrodes 2a and 2b with an electron-emitting substance containing Y2O3 and La2O3 in a La2O3/La2O33+2O3 ratio of 0.5 or more (in mol%) are provided at both ends of the luminous tube 1 into which mercury, a rare gas, and a metal halide are enclosed in a mutually facting manner. For examle, a 80:20 (mol%) suspension of Y2O3 and La2O3, as the electron-emitting substance 18, is coated on the electrode-forming materials 15W17 and heated to form the electrodes 2a and 2b. And, using the electrodes, a metal vapor discharge lamp provided with the luminous tube 1 into which appropriate amounts of mercury, Ar gas, and the iodides of Sc and Na are enclosed is manufactured.
