Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the measuring of exfoliation characteristic of wire rod which corresponds to its actual working hours by detecting the sound caused by scale exfoliation which is generated at the time of bending test piece using a roller having the same curvature as of the bending roller used at the mechanical descaler.
CONSTITUTION: When test piece of wire rod is bent using bending roller 2 having the same curvature as of the bending roller being used at the mechanical descaler, a sound is generated because of the exfoliation of scale of the wire rod 5. This sound is detected by the sensor 4 for acoustic emission and the acoustic emission apparatus 6 which is contacted to the roller 2 via contact medium such as grease, and the generated sound wave pattern is recorded at the recorder 7 such as pen-recorder, or the accumulated sum of the sound wave pattern is counted by a counter. By so doing, measurement of the mechanical scale exfoliation which corresponds to the actual working hours of the wire rod can be performed with ease and high reliability.
