Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance initial adhesion of veneer by a method wherein granular carboxymethylcellulose particle is partially dissolved as thickner when coating adhesive on the veneer, and viscosity is increased as time passes by water present in the adhesive.
CONSTITUTION: To 100pts.wt. of synthetic resin which forms the main component of veneer adhesive, such as urea resin or melamine resin, about 0.5wt% or less of granular carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) is added immediately before adhesive coating on veneer as a thickner. This reduces viscosity of the adhesive when coating on the veneer, and thus facilitates coating operation. After coating, CMC is dissolved by water present in the adhesive, and rapidly increases the viscosity of adhesive, thus enhancing initial adhesion of the veneer.
