Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin composition having high strength and high rigidity from the reaction product of a specific polybutylene terephthalate and a multifunctional isocyanate and carbon fibers.
CONSTITUTION: A polybutylene terephthalate of an intrinsic viscosity of 0.2W0.6 and a hydroxyl value of 9W27, having hyroxyl groups at both ends, obtained from the condensation of terephthalic acid(alkyl ester) and 1,4-butanediol, is mixed with a multifunctional isocyanate, e.g., tetramethylene diisocyanate, tolylene 2,4-diisocyanate, etc., in a 1:1 functional group ratio, and then the mixture is mixed with 5W 50wt% carbon fibers 5W20microns in diameter and 0.05W13mm in length and then reacted by a 0.5W10 minute mixing at 210W270°C by using a 1- or 2-axle extruder.
