PURPOSE:To automatically make a groove of uniform width, depth and position on the total periphery of a lens independently of its shape, by providing a lens position adjuster and a lens revolution speed controller. The revolution speed of another DC servomotor 9 is increased or decreased depending on the output of the differential amplifier 52 to make the circumferential velocity of the rotating lens 17 uniform independently of the shape of the lens 17. A uniform groove is thus machined by the cutter 41 on the entire periphery of the lens 17 as it is located just over the diamond cutter.
