Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the connection loss of optical cable which is measured for transmission loss in advance, by inputting optical pulse to the fiber of which connection end is processed with perfect reflection film and to the fiber one end of connected cable of which is processed with perfect refelction film, and by measuring the reflected light. CONSTITUTION:Optical pulse is incident from the input end 14 to the fiber of which connection end 7 is processed with the perfect reflection film (metal film such as Ag, Ni), and the reflection light 22 reflected on the reflection film of the connection end 7 is measured. Next, the reflection film of the connection end 7 is eliminated, and it is connected to the fiber in which one end 18 of connected cable 5 is processed with perfect reflection film, and the reflected light 23 from the fiber end is measured by incident optical light from the input end 14. The reflected light 22 receives the reduction by transmission loss 2alphaC(dB) in comparison with the light 23 while it reciprocates the optical cable 5, and further, it received the connection loss by 2alphaJ(dB) because of twice transmission of the connection 7. Thus, taking the energy loss of reflection lights as S22, S23, the connection loss alphaJ is obtained as alphaJ=(+10logS22/S23)/2-alphaC.
