Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the start-up time of a tray rectifying column after shutdown of continuous operation, by installing trays made of plates having no holes such as weeping holes, i.e., drain holes, in the tray rectifying column so as to hold liq. at a weir level during shutdown.
CONSTITUTION: A tray 18 of a rectifying column is made of a plate having no holes such as weeping holes, i.e., drain holes. Hereby, liq. is held on the tray 18 at the level of a weir 9 during shutdown. To the tray 18 is attached a connecting pipe 19 to which a feed opening 15 and an exhaust opening 16 for the holdup liq. are connected through a respective valve. Hence the exhaust pipe 16 performs the function of weeping holes, i.e., the holdup liq. can be discharged through the connecting pipe 19 at shutdown. The initial start-up time is reduced by pouring a liq. having a composition adjusted to that of constant operation by means of the pipe 19 connected to the opening 15, the composition of constant operation having been determined through experiment or design calculation.
