Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a packing from being inclined in a seal groove, by keeping a lip of the packing which comes in touch with the slide face thicker than the other lip which comes in touch with the fixed member.
CONSTITUTION: When fluid pressure P is fed in one of chambers partitioned by a piston 2 in a cylinder 1, part of the pressure P is fed in a clearance 14 between lips 11, 12 of a packing 9 on the pressurized side. Then the thinner lip 12 with a thickness b is pressed upward until its end comes in close touch with the inner wall of the cylinder 1 to seal the clearance between the cylinder 1 and the piston 2. The thicker lip 11 with a thickness a is pressed to the bottom wall 3' of a seal groove 3. This means that the packing 9 is totally pressed tight to the piston 2 without any play.
