Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove the shock of biting the billet into the mill, by detecting the tip of billet with the photoelectric tube installed nearby the entrance of the approach table, when the billet is transported till being bitten into the mill, by driving the feed roller with this detecting signal, and by detecting the passing tail end of the billet with the photoelectric tube.
CONSTITUTION: The billet 7 is pushed out on to the approach table 2 by the feed roller 1 of the former pass; the tip of this billet 7 is detected by the photoelectric tube 8; since then, after passing a time necessary to naturally begin the rotation of the feed roller 3 by the timer 9, the geared motor 4 is driven, and the billet 7 is transported on the table 2 by the rotating feed roller 3. Next, when the tail end of the billet 7 completely passes over the photoelectric tube 8, the motor 4 is put off; hereafter, the billet 7 is transported by the turning force due to the inertia of the feed roller 3 and is fed into the reducing roll 6. According to this method, the period of starting current of the geared motor 4 is shortened, so that the life of the motor 4 is extended. Besides, the shock to be caused by bitting the billet 7 into the reducing rolls 6 is removed, so that the damage of the roller 3 and the motor 4 is prevented.
