Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacure a polymer-coated granular catalyst of high effectiveness factor, by dropping a mixture comprising a finely pulverized catalyst of Cr, Fe, Co, Ni or the like and a polymer (solution) to shape the mixture as grains.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture, which comprises a finely pulverized catalyst of Cr, Fe, Co, Ni or the like and PVA or a polymer like PVA, is dropped so that the mixture is shaped as grains. If a solution of a polymer is used, the finely pulverized catalyst and the solution are mixed with each other and the mixture is dropped into hot air or onto a powder of diatomaceous earth, activated charcoal or the like. As a result, a granular catalyst is obtained. Since the surface of the catalyst is coated with the polymer layer and this layer has numerous pores, the effectiveness factor of the granular catalyst is higher than that of a massive catalyst.
