Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to carry out inspection and maintenance of crank chamber of a diesel engine with ease and promptly, by fixing the piston at the place being lifted to a position near the top dead point, and deteching cross head located at th down side of the piston. CONSTITUTION:Diesel engine shown in the drawing comprises base block 1, intermediate block 2 and cylinder jacket block 3. Fixing metals 13 are attached to piston- rod packing box 10 which is located upwardly of crank chamber. In inspecting the crank chamber, piston 5 is lifted to a position where holes formed on opposite sides of the lower-end flange of piston 5 and mating holes of fixing metals 13 are aligned with each other, and piston 5 is fixed tightly in place by inserting tap bolts 14. Then, inspection is made to essential parts of the crank chamber after pushing cross head 6 downward and thereby spacing the upper surface of cross head 6 from the lower end of piston 5. Thus, maintenance and inspection of the crank chamber can be carried out with ease and promptly.
