Abstract

PURPOSE: To make control of carbon content easy and efficiently produce the powder for powder metallurgy of superior toughness by annealing ductile cast iron machining powder to pearlite structure and disintegrating this thereby separating fine particles.
CONSTITUTION: Machining powder of ductile cast iron of C; 2 to 5%, bond C; 0.4% or under is annealed to change its structure from ferrite to pearlite and make the bond C 0.7 to 1.0%. This machining powder is disintegrated with an impact hammer mill or the like and the fine particles are separated by a cyclone to control the contained C content to 1.0 to 2.5%. This method lets the segregation of the fine particles of a lighter specific gravity containing a large amount of C to be prevented and makes the control of C content easy. The use of such powder for metallurgy enables the moldings having superior toughness to be readily produced.
