Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent cooling cracking by enclosing the circumference of the slab being continuously cast with a cooling medium thereby cooling the slab while exerting compressive force with the cooling medium.
CONSTITUTION: The slab 5 being continuously cast by a mold 1 is hermetically sealed by seal rollers 2 into a cooling base body 3 and is guided and passed therethrough. At this time, high pressure gas or high pressure liquid or the cooling medium mixing these is circulated in the cooling medium pool 4 of the cooling base body 3 through a cooling medium supply pipe 8 and the slab 5 is cooled while sufficient compressive force is being given thereto. Here, the similar effect may also be obtained by disposing two or more pieces of the cooling base bodies 3, providing guide rollers 7 between both and providing an arbitrary number of guide rollers 2" in the cooling base bodies 3.
