Abstract

PURPOSE:To allow B to be uniformly contained in the title diffusion-coated layer by using a pack agent consisting of a specified amt. of Al-B alloy powder contg. a restricted amt. of B, a halide and an inert carrier in formation of the layer by pack cementation. CONSTITUTION:In formation of a diffusion-coated layer of Al-B by pack cementation, a pack agent of the following compsn. is used: 0.5-1.5% B-contg. Al-B alloy powder or 0.05-1.5% B- and 2-20% S-contg. Al-Si-B alloy powder 2- 60%, a halide such as NH4Cl 0.5-5% and an inert carrier such as alumina the balance. By this method the pack treating temp. can be made lower than that of a conventional method since diffusion of Al and B is facilitated. Accordingly, a uniform pack thickness is obtd., and the B content of the pack layer is distributed more uniformly, thereby providing stable properties to the layer.
