Abstract
PURPOSE:To remove mill scale etc. completely by a single pickling, by heating steel material having mill scale adhered thereon directly in a reducing atmosphere, then by maintaining the steel material at a temp. in an oxidizing atmosphere, finally by pickling the steel material. CONSTITUTION:Steel material A, which has been hot rolled and has roll scale adhered to the surface thereof, is charged through a charge vestibule 12 to a heating furnace 15. The furnace 15 is divided into a heating zone 17 and a slow cooling zone 18 by a drop arch 16. To both zones 17, 18 is charged a reducing gas. The steel material A is heated with radiation heat from radiant tubes 19, and the mill scale adhered on the surface of the steel material is reduced. The steel material is cooled in the slow cooling zone 18, then delivered through an extraction vestibule 21 to a heat-maintaining furnace 25, where it is kept in a weakly oxidizing atmosphere at a temp. 650-500 deg.C for 0.5-1.5hrs., so that mill scale is oxidized once again. The steel material A is taken out to the air, hereby fine cracks are formed in the mill scale. The steel material is finally removed of mill scale completely in a pickling tank 17.
