Abstract

PURPOSE:To make easy the local heat treatment of mateials of complicated shape so as to improve economically the toughness of heat-affected zone, by disposing at the weld zone an optional metal powder having m.p. which corresponds to the heat-treating temp. range of the weld zone and by melting the metal. CONSTITUTION:A metallic powder 5 is loaded to the inside of a supporting means 4 arranged around toes of weld, which are not affected sufficiently by annealing heat treatment because of the structure of weld bead 3, so that thermal stress remains, and a heat source such as an electric heater 6 etc. is installed in the supporting means 4. Above mentioned metal powder 5 is selected from the metals, e.g., Al, having a m.p. in the range of reasonable tempering temp., e.g., 600-650 deg.C for usual steel. The metal powder is melted by the heat source 6 and the temp. is controlled by use of a thermocouple 7. Hereby, the weld zones 1, 2 are tempered. Weld zone under poor working conditions is heat-treated as well in a similar way.
