Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a composite material of excellent quality by low cost at a method wherein simultaneously sheath by pressure a core wire with a powdery material at a time when the core wire is stretched as it is lubricated, drawing a powdery material, which serves as a sheath material, and the core into a cylindrical portion of a throttle die to produce a high pressure on the powdery material and by pulling them into a bearing portion.
CONSTITUTION: A core wire 1 heated to about 400°C after its surface is ground is fed into a throttle die 4 provided with a cylindrical portion 3, whose inside diameter is larger than a diameter of the core wire 1 such as a steel wire, at the front thereof. In the meantime, powdery material 2 such as Al powder in a powder bath 5 being preheated at a temperature of approximately 200W500°C is drawn into the cylindrical portion 3 by virtue of a friction viscosity, the powdery material fed into the furthest inner portion being high-pressurized. The core wire 1 pulls the high- pressurized powdery material 2 into a bearing portion of the throttle die 4, the core wire being throttled by means of the throttle die 4 with the powdery material serving as lubricant. The core wire is stretched in the manner described above as it is lubricated. Simultaneously, the circumference of the core wire 1 is sheathed by pressure with the powdery material 2 thereon to form a composite material, the work being carried out from the die 4.
