Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the dehydrating rate of organic sludge as well as reduce the amount of pH regulating agent used by adding an aqueous solution of the partially Mannich modified product of methacrylamide or polymethacylylamide, whose pH is regulated to 7 or less, to organic sludge.
CONSTITUTION: When dehydrating organic sludge by the addition of an aqueous solution of the partially Mannich modified product of polyacrylamide or polymethacrylamide, as a dehydrating aid, the pH of the foresaid modified product aqueous solution is regulated to 7 or less by the addition of a protone doner, e.g., an inorganic or organic acid, etc., and the dehydration is performed by means of a vacuum dehydrator, a pressure dehydrator, etc. Thus, in comparison with the conventional methods, the amount of pH regulating agent used can be more reduced and also even if the amount of the agen used is the same, the moisture content of cake can be more lowered because of improved dehydrating rate.
