Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the dehydrating operation as well as reduce an amount of an auxiliary fuel for incinerating through a method wherein a specified amount of methanol is added to sludge and, thereafter, said sludge is dehydrated to increase a dehydrating speed of said sludge.
CONSTITUTION: 10W40wt%, based on the sludge, of methanol is added to the sludge and, thereafter, the dehydrating operation is carried out. For example, 10W 40% of methanol is added to the sludge and after well blending, said sludge is dehydrated by a filter press or a centrifugal precipitation method. This removed liquid contains methanol corresponding to an added amount thereof, but, because boiling point difference with water is high, said methanol can be easily recovered by a conventional distillation or a vacuum distillation method. The methanol added prior to the dehydration treatment is partially transferred to the dehydrated sludge to be used as an auxiliary fuel for incinerating and a portion thereof is recovered from said removed liquid to be used by circulating and, moreover, other portion thereof is added to an activated sludge tank to be used for denitrification.
