Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the equipment of a Doppler rader unit on a vehicle by thinning the unit by constituting a slot array antenna, whose radio beam direction can freely be set, on the lower surface of the metal case of the unit. CONSTITUTION:A slot array antenna used for a Doppler rader unit for the speed sensor of a motorcar has a line of slots 9 formed on metal case 2 on one side and is fitted to waveguide 6. To opening 6b at one end of waveguide 6, transmission-reception part 3 is fitted and terminal 6a on the other end is made of a short surface or resistive terminal. The line of slots 9 is covered with water-proof sheet 7. The direction of a beam can freely be set by varying intervals of slots 9 and the antenna gain can freely be set by increasing or decreasing the number of slots as well. In addition, the array antenna can be thinned because of formation direct on the metal case 2 and when it is fitted under floor 4 of a vehicle, the antenna part is never close to the road surface, so that its equipment can be improved.
