Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent deposit of dust on the fractured plane and decrease the insertion loss, by tapering the vicinity of the opening of the fitting hole in the sleeve to be fitted into a receptacle, and causing to coincide with each fractured plane of optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A metal sleeve 11 has end planes C, C' thereof formed in the flatness of the order of less than mum, and has an optical fiber fitting hole 11a opened in the axial direction. The vicinity of the opening of the hole 11a is formed in a tapered hole 11b toward the end planes C, C'. The depth of the hole 11b is several mum from the end planes C, C', and an optical fiber 12 is inserted into the hole 11a and adhered and secured with adhesive 13. Each fractured plane D, D' of the fiber 12 coincides with the opening end plane on the base end side of the hole 11b to be formed in an optical mirror plane. The sleeve 11 is inserted into a fitting hole 15 in a receptacle 14, which are joined to each other end to end, and an interval of several mum is formed between the fractured planes D, D' of the fiber 12.
