Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a smooth switching of a brake booster from a vacuum booster to a hydraulic booster, by constituting the brake booster, which uses both vacuum and fluid pressure, such that an output direction is arranged in a straight line and a power is transmitted to an output rod through an elastic rubber.
CONSTITUTION: As a result of a brake pedal being stepped on, a rod 12 moves to the left, a valve seat 11 and a valve 9 being released, whereby a transforming chamber 32 becomes open to the air. Resultantly, a power piston 7 is pushed to the left due to a difference in a pressure, a power being transmitted to a transmission rod 22 through the medium of a rubber member 24 after being transmitted to a No.2 power piston 21. When boosting of a vacuum booster reaches the maximum as a result of the brake being further stepped on, a No.3 valve 26 moves against a hydraulic piston 21. A pressure of a discharge fluid from a pump 40 becomes high at the upstream side of the valve 26, said fluid being transmitted to the rod 22. This loses the feel of a stage which occurs in the case of the booster being switched, and an operating feel can thus be improved.
