Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively remove Ca in ion exchange bittern without using a Ca removing agent, in concn. of the bittern, by adding an adequate amt. of KCl and CaCl2 to the bittern to increase the amt. of carnallite precipitated and to separate CaCl2-enriched mother liquor.
CONSTITUTION: KCl or KCl-contg. substance and CaCl2 or a CaCl-contg. substance are added to ion exchange bittern to adjust the molar ratio of KCl and CaCl2 to MgCl2 to 0.8W1.1 and 0.5W1.1, respectively, and the adjusted bittern is concentrated. During or after concn. KCl and CaCl2 may be added to attain the above compsn. MgCl2 is precipitated as carnallite (KCl.MgCl2.6H2O), and the CaCl2 is separated as CaC.2-enriched mother liquor. When the carnallite is hydrolyzed to separate MgCl2-enriched mother liquor, KCl is recovered as a product and can be reused. Since the CaCl2-enriched mother liquor can be recycled, it is unnecessary to feed chemicals from the outside of the system.
