Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a highly pure title substance useful as a secondary drier of a cold-curing paint, a waterproofing agent, etc., by adjusting the pH of a Zr- containing aqueous solution with an aqueous solution of an alkali carbonate, and then reacting the Zr-solution with an aqueous solution of an alkali soap at a relatively low temperature.
CONSTITUTION: The pH of a Zr-containing aqueous solution is adjusted between 2.6 and 2.8 by adding an aqueous solution of an alkali carbonate. It is then made to react with an aqueous solution of an alkali soap (e.g. sodium stearate) at 65W75°C to obtain a Zr-soap having excellent solubility to organic solvents. The Zr-containing solution is, e.g. an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble salt of Zr, e.g. Zr(SO4)2. The adjustment of the pH is preferably carried out by first adjusting the pH to about 2.5 by adding 10% aqueous solution of Na2CO3, and then adjusting to the final value by adding slowly 1% aqueous solution of Na2CO2. The added alkali soap can be completely recovered.
USE: Curing agent for rigid silicone resin, dyeing assistant, releasing agent for concrete, etc.
