Abstract

PURPOSE: A carrier for immobilized enzymes which is easily moldable, tough in a dry state, and will not be swollen or deformed in a wet state, prepared by drying an aqueous solution of a protein-vinyl monomer graft copolymer coagulated in water.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of a protein-vinyl monomer graft copolymer with a protein content of preferably 10W50%, obtained by grafting a vinyl monomer, e.g. acrylonitrile, acrylic acid or its ester, onto a protein, e.g. milk casein, soybean separated protein, serum protein, or protein extracted from yeasts or bacteria, is coagulated in water, and dried in an undrawn state into various shapes, e.g. fibers, threads, films, powder or beads.
