Abstract
PURPOSE: To store vegetables and fruits at 10°C or below, by sealing them with a disoxidant consisting mainly of iron and active carbon in an air-permeable packaging material having a low oxygen permeability.
CONSTITUTION: Vegetables and fruits are, preferably with a powdery disoxidant consisting mainly of iron, active carbon, and, if necessary an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide, sealed in an air-permeable packaging material, e.g. a polyethylene or ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer film, having an oxgen permeability of 1,000W15,000 cc/m2.24hr. 1 atm, preferably 1,000W10,000 cc/m2.hr. 1atm, and stored at 10°C or below.
