Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction between aromatic dicarboxylic acids, aromatic diamines and a phosphite ester is conducted in the presence of a specific high-molecular- weight compound to increase remarkably the polymerization degree of the resulting aromatic polyamide using inexpensive starting materials.
CONSTITUTION: In the reaction between (A) aromatic dicarboxylic acids, (B) aromatic diamines and (C) a phosphite ester fo R-P(OR')2(R is OR', OH; R' is aromatic group) as triphenyl phosphite, (D) a high-molecular-weight compound with good compatibility to carboxyl groups as polyethylene oxide, polyvinyl alcohol is incorporated. The amount of component C added is 60W110mol% based on the mol of amide linkages formed in the reaction and component D is 3W40% based on the weight of polyamide formed.
