Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer having a specific melting point and excellent hot-meltability and resistance to hydrolysis, and useful as a hot-melt adhesive for textile, by polymerizing an aromatic dicarboxylic acid containing sulfonic acid group, an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, etc., and a glycol at specific ratios.
CONSTITUTION: The objective polymer having a mleting point of 60W150°C can be prepared by polymerizing (A) a dicarboxylic acid component containing (i) a dicarboxylic acid having the group of formula -SO3M (M is H or metal atom) on the aromatic nucleus (e.g. sulfoisophthalic acid) and (ii) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (e.g. isophthalic acid) wherein the amounts of (i) and (i)+(ii) in the dicarboxylic acid component are 4W18mol% and ≥80mol%, respectively and (B) a diol component containing (iii) neopentyl glycol and (iv) a diol of formula (n is integer 4W10) wherein the molar ratio of (iii)/(iv) is 8/2W2/8 and the amount of (iii)+(iv) in the diol component is ≥90mol%. The polymerization is carried out in the presence of or absence of an esterification catalyst.
