Abstract

PURPOSE:A dimer or mixture resulting from the Diels-Alder reaction between 2 or more kinds of specific conjugated dienes is added to fuel gases as the effective component to give the fuel gases bed odor that is sufficiently detectable even in low concentration. CONSTITUTION:Two or more kinds of compounds selected from butadiene, isoperene, 1,3-pentadiene and cyclopentadiene are subjected to the Diels-Alder reaction to form a mixture of dimer and codimer. The mixture is used by adding to fuel gases in an amount over about 50ppm by wt or mixing with other known odorants so as to become 20wt% or more in the content. The liquefied petroleum gas containing the mixture has strong odor enough to be detectable even when the mixing ratio to the air is as low as 1:1,000-2,000.
