Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain high tensile and modulus carbon fibers, by carbonizing flameproofed acrylic fibers at a specific temperature for a given time, and by heating the fibers to 1800W2300°C at a specific rate, and by calcining the fibers at that temperature for 0.1W3min.
CONSTITUTION: Polyacrylonitrile fibers are flameproofed, carbonized in an inert atmosphere at a temperature (T) ranging from 1250 to 1350°C for a time (t) of the formula, heated to a temperature of 1800 to 2300°C at a rate of 2×102W 5×102°C/sec, and calcined at the temperature for 0.1W3 min.
