Abstract

PURPOSE: The polymerization of cyclopentadiene is effected using a catalyst of metal compound of W, Mo, Re, etc., thus producing said resin having high unsaturation degree and freeing from gel when dissolved in a solvent.
CONSTITUTION: The polymerization of cyclopentadiene derivatives, preferably cyclopentadiene, is effected in the presence a catalyst of compound of at least one metal selected from W, Mo and Re, such as oxyhalide, preferably WCl6, WBr6, MoCl5. The amount of the catalyst used is 0.01W1mol% based on the monomer. The polymerization is preferably conducted in a solvent as toluene in a monomer concentration of 5W60wt% at -100W+100°C. The resulting resin has 150W240 bromine value, 500W10,000 number-average molecular weight and is free from gel.
USE: Softening agent for rubber, pressure-sensitive adhesive, coating, printing ink.
