Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sulfureous compounds-containing exhaust gas cleaning catalyst exhibiting a high performance for a long period of time without being weakened by poisoning by supporting a platinum metal element on a titanium dioxide-dominated alumina support.
CONSTITUTION: To obtain a catalyst for cleaning catalytic combustion exhaust gas, a titanium dioxide-alumina mixture containing approx. 70W95wt% titanium dioxide is baked at 500W900°C and then approx. 0.02W2wt% at least one of platinum metal elements, e.g., palladium, platinum, etc., is supported on the baked oxides mixture. Using the catalyst so obtained, combustible components in exhaust gas containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, etc., discharged from peterochemical industry, etc., are oxidized completely for purification. The catalyst can keep its high performance for a long period of time without suffuring any poisoning even by sulfureous compounds.
