Abstract
PURPOSE: Bicyclo[2, 2, 2]-oct-(7)-ene-2, 3, 5, 6-tetracarboxylic 2, 3, 5, 6-dianhydride and a specific diaminodicarboxylic acid are made to react in a polar solvent and the reaction mixture is neutralized with ammonia to produce title resin useful as a coating for electrical insulation.
CONSTITUTION: Bicyclo[2, 2, 2]-oct-(7)-ene-2, 3, 5, 6-tetracarboxylic 2, 3, 5, 6- dianhydride of formula I and a diaminodicarboxylic acid of formula II (R is tetravalent organic radical) are made to react at an about equimolar ratio in a polar solvent as dimethylformamide or dimethylacetamide at about 100W250°C for about 0.5W10hr. The reaction mixture is neutralized with ammonia to convert the remaining carboxyl groups completely into the ammonium salts, thus giving the resin of formula III. The compound of formula II is preferably 4, 4'-diamino-3, 3'-dicarboxy- diphenyl ether or the like.
