Abstract
PURPOSE: To cheaply produce the title product of high purity by setting a BaO- MgO-Al2O3 type flux under a raw material rod of a mixt. of BaO, MgO and Al2O3 specified; placing a seed crystal under the flux; and melting the flux portion.
CONSTITUTION: A flux obtd. blending 1mol of Al2O3 with 0.5W0.08mol of MgO and BaO is set under a raw material rod of a mixt. of BaO, MgO and Al2O3 in a molar ratio of 1:1:4.5W1:1:5.5 The grains of the mixt. have a diameter of 1mm or below, esp. 10μm or below. A seed crystal is placed under the flux, and the flux portion is melted by a light collection heating system floating zone method to perform single-crystallization. A BaMgAl10O17 single crystal obtd. by this method is a novel single crystal and is used as a substrate for producing a hexagonal system ferrite single crystal thin film.
