Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to quantitize NH3N in high accuracy by a simple operation for a short time period of 8 to 12 minutes by absorbing NH3 from a sample into an acid reacting liquid and by detecting the variation in the conductivity.
CONSTITUTION: Within a closed stripper 5, an aqueous solution of KOH having a higher concentration than 40 % is held at a suitable temperature between 30 to 60°C ±1°C by a constant temperature bath 11. The needle of a micro syringe is inserted into a rubber plug 9 so that a liquid sample is injected in a preset quantity into the stripper 5. The NH3 is discharged out together with cleaned air of a preset quantity of 200 to 500 cc from an inlet 1 by a pump 2 and further into a metering cell 15 through a mist catcher 12 which equipped with a heater 13. Then, dilute sulfuric acid of normality of 3×10-5 to 1×10-3 is discharged from a tank 16 through a comparing cell 14 and a cell 15 out of a discharge pipe 19 thereby to absorb the NH3. The conductivity of the dilute sulfuric acid before and after the absorption is detected at the cells 14 and 15 so that the ratio or difference is introduced into a recorder 21 through a conductivity detecting circuit 20.
