Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent occurrence of chevron cracks in the title bar by controlling the pearlite grains and the C segregation of hot rolled steel products contg. a specified amt. of C to specified ranges.
CONSTITUTION: By using a middle or bottom part of an ingot or continuouscast steel and controlling the temp. for rolling it, the conditions for the pearlite grains and the C segregation of the resulting hot rolled steel products are allowed to satisfy equation I (where d is an average pearlite grain diameter μ in the region from the central part of the rolled material to 1/10 of the diameter, σ d is a standard deviation μ in pearlite grain diameter in the same region, and ΔC is a value % obtd. by subtracting the average C content in the total section of the rolled material from the average C content in the same region). Chevron cracks do not occur in the steel products in cold forward extrusion and drawing.
