Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the strength and durability of mold, by using xylene-added polycarbosilane consistent liquid as the binding hardener in sand mold.
CONSTITUTION: Polycarbosilane, when xylene is added thereto, will become a consistent liquid suited for binding of casting sand. This liquid is mixed by 15wt% or less to the casting sand to mold, and the sand mold is baked and hardened at a temperature of 1,200°C or more. By thus heating, polycarbosilane will be changed to SiC having excellent properties. This method may be applied to casting of nonferrous castings, and casting of paraffin, resin, etc. which may be solidified at ordinary temperature.
