Abstract

PURPOSE: To ensure that the suction of foreign matter falling from the upper portion of a driven well can be avoided by arranging a thin-walled cylinder around an underwater motor, forming the lower portion of an underwater pump with a suction port, and communicating the port with the interior of the cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: When foreign matter such as sand has fallen from the upper portion of a pipe 1 and collected on top of a casing 8, the operation of an underwater pump 3 causes the matter to fall through the gap between the pipe 1 and a thin- walled cylinder 6 and collect in the lower portion of the pipe 1, i.e. in the bottom portion of a driven well. However, the foreign matter cannot be sucked into the pump 3 because a suction port 5 is not opening into the gap. The suction port 5 of the pump 3 is so arranged that water is sucked in from a water intake port 10 formed in the bottom portion of the pump 3 sufficiently distant from the bottom of the well through the gap 9 between the cylinder 6 and the outside peripheral wall of an underwater motor 2. Thus, suction of foreign matter such as sand present in the bottom portion can be avoided.
